Sam Pierce was a well known figure in the motorcycling world, having won countless races using Indian motorcycles. He now owned one of the biggest motorcycle shops in the Santa Ana area.
Sam was very kind and showed great interest when we discussed our trip with him, especially when we talked about the old Indian. Using a Mexican barber friend of ours as an interpreter, Sam invited us to eat and talk all about our voyage.
“Could you stay in Santa Ana for a few days so I can refurbish your bike?” he asked us.
“Sure, but we don’t have much money.”
“Don’t worry about the money. I’m offering you this free of charge. My wish is that you complete your journey with no mechanical problems.”
